Volunteer gardener

Hours: To be agreed (between the hours 08.00 – 16.00 Monday to Friday) Possible weekend working could be arranged
Duration: On-going
Purpose of Role: To provide support to Estates Team and/or young people in the garden of their supported housing residence

Details: WESC Foundation campus covers 15 acres of ground. This role involves the general maintenance of the grounds and Sensory Garden. The volunteer will be provided with the appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as required.

Duties: to assist the Estates Team and/or young people in the garden of their supported housing residence in carrying out general gardening duties such:

  • Weed control
  • Grass cutting
  • Shrub pruning
  • Planting
  • Flower bed maintenance
  • Path edge trimming and path cleaning
  • Sweeping/leaf collecting
  • Hedge cutting
  • To assist with maintenance tasks as required
  • To maintain the plants in the Sensory Garden along with the fountain and sensory equipment

To help with fence painting if required.

Skills: 

  • Previous experience of gardening would be preferred
  • To be able to work unattended once guidance has been given
  • Familiarity with the use of power tools whilst desirable, is not essential
  • To have the ability to work in   collaboration with and respect the contributions of colleagues and others
  • Good organisational skills
  • Good communication skills in order to impart information clearly
  • Enthusiastic and self- motivated
  • Cheerful disposition
  • Reliable
