Building Better Opportunities
The National Lottery Community Fund is matching funds from the European Social Fund 2014-2020 to invest in local projects tackling the root causes of poverty, promoting social inclusion and driving local jobs and growth.
It is supporting a variety of projects, ranging from those improving employability for the most disadvantaged, helping those with multiple and complex needs, to improving financial literacy.
How is WESC Foundation involved?
WESC Foundation is one of a number of partners in the South West. We are using our specialist knowledge to help people with a visual impairment to overcome barriers, improve their employability skills and to secure fulfilling occupations. This includes helping them access:
- Braille skills and resources
- new and additional technology
- mobility and orientation training
- help with independent living skills.
Led by PETROC College, the Empowering Enterprise programme is seeking to engage over 600 of Devon’s most socially-excluded young people and work with them to develop their employability and life skills giving them the confidence to return to employment, education or training.
The programme is seeking to engage with 18-24 years who are not currently in education, employment or training (‘NEETs’). WESC Foundation was involved in providing expertise and training as a support partner.

Pluss, together with Cosmic and Torbay Community Development Trust are leading on “Positive People”. The project, which runs until the end of 2019, is giving people who find themselves trapped in difficult circumstances a way to get active in their local community, learn new skills and increase their confidence.
WESC Foundation is commissioned as a specialist partner, working with visually-impaired adults in Devon (aged 25+) and Cornwall/Somerset (18+).
