Most people’s concept of visual impairment relates to eye conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma or even loss of an eye, where the problem exists in relation to the health and/or efficiency of the eyes. Neurological visual impairment, sometimes called cortical or cerebral visual impairment (CVI) is much more complex and difficult to understand. Neurological visual impairment can occur when the visual processing areas of the brain are damaged – it has become one of the most common causes of visual impairment in children.

The ‘CVI Range’* has been developed as an assessment and intervention framework based on the premise that functional vision in children with CVI can be improved through systematic interventions, tailored specifically for the individual young person.

WESC Foundation is able to offer ‘CVI Range’* assessments to families, local authorities or other agencies who want to gain a better understanding of a young person’s functional vision and have some positive suggestions and strategies for making the most effective use of that vision. Assessments are conducted by our staff who are qualified and experienced in the education and habilitation of young people with a visual impairment.
