Admissions and assessments
Making decisions about accessing the right services or placements for children and young adults with special educational needs can be a very challenging process.
We try to support individuals and families by offering individual assessments aimed at making families aware of the services available via WESC and finding out as much as we can about an individual’s learning and living needs so that individual needs can be supported through our multi-disciplinary team of experienced staff.
The assessment may include the following specialists:
- teacher of the visually impaired
- mobility /habilitation specialist
- speech and language therapist
- braille/ICT specialist
- low vision specialist
- occupational therapist
- residential care manager.
The assessment process is conducted in consultation with local authority advisers. Where a placement at WESC Foundation is appropriate the funding agency is made aware of the results of the assessment.
A placement is subject to a funding agreement. Young people between 5 to 25 should be able to apply for funding through different sources including the local authority, the Education Funding Agency (EFA), Social Services and Healthcare.
