WESC Welcomes a New Equine Therapist

WESC Foundation student sat on our mechanical horse, WinstonSay hello to the latest addition of the WESC Therapy team, “Winston”, the new horse simulator, fundraised for by all of our wonderful supporters!

Horse riding is an incredibly therapeutic activity and having the horse simulator means that now horse riding is accessible to many more of our students, who previously could not participate because of confidence or physical issues.

Horse riding is a great therapy for balance, core stability and toning muscles, as the horse motion mimics the walking gait. Horse riding builds confidence and many of our students respond positively and find it easier to talk and express themselves when on the horse.

This horse doesn’t buck or shy; he is safe and obedient at all times. The horse simulator helps our students get used to horses safely, and as their confidence grows, some of our students will progress on to a real horse at our riding for the disabled sessions.

Winston is already making a massive difference to the physical and emotional wellbeing of our students here at WESC Foundation. Thank you!
