On Wednesday 25th April 2018 WESC Foundation hosted Devon’s 2018 SEND (special educational needs and disability) Swimming Gala and invited seven other schools to join in the competition.

Students from WESC Foundation, Millwater School, Mayfield School, Ellen Tinkham School, Great Torrington Primary School, The Park Community School and Southbrook School gathered together at WESC’s on-site swimming pool to show off their speedy talents and race it out to scoop the medals!

WESC Foundation students surpassed themselves in a variety of races including backstroke, breaststroke and front crawl. They also particularly enjoyed the fun activities that saw them diving and collecting items in the ‘shopping trolley collect’, ‘collect sunken treasure’ and ‘taxi shuttle run’ challenge!

The four WESC Foundation students, Ross, Nina, Zoe and Jago, who took part in the Gala did an amazing job gaining five medals between them including two gold!

A big commendation goes to WESC student Ross who won two gold medals, one for the 25 metre backstroke and the other in the 25 metre front crawl. He actually completed the front crawl race in record time!

Nina was delighted by her bronze medal victory in the 25 metre backstroke, Zoe was excited by her front crawl bronze medal and Jago jumped for joy by winning the bronze in the push and glide competition.

Tim Green, WESC Foundation’s swimming teacher, said: “It was amazing to see all the students from all the different schools having fun, encouraging each other, making friends and winning medals. The competitive spirit really was alive and kicking!”

Well done everyone!
