Ofsted carried out an Assurance Visit to the WESC Foundation residential special school earlier in the autumn term.

We welcome today’s publishing of the inspector’s report.  Although the visit does not result in the awarding of a grade to this part of our provision, we are delighted that the inspector recognises the significant steps we have taken to address the issues highlighted by Ofsted in previous visits.

Care of children

We are pleased that the inspector recognised the quality of care given by our staff and the progress that our young people are making as a result.

“Children’s physical, emotional and mental health needs are well catered for.” Ofsted also recognised the efforts being made to upskill our staff, especially around our young people’s medication.

The report also highlights some of the creative and engaging ways that our team helped engage with students and their families during the earlier part of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Safety of children

We have invested resources into how we manage and report safeguarding concerns, together with a robust training and evaluation programme for all our staff. In addition, children in the residential special school have also developed their understanding of safeguarding and how to keep themselves safe in the real and virtual worlds.

Leaders and managers

The inspector recognised the work done by leaders and managers across WESC Foundation to address the actions from the previous monitoring visit, as well as improving the monitoring, quality assurance and management oversight.

Ofsted also saw our clear vision for the development of the service and recognised how our leadership team is ambitious and excited about implementing plans for the future.
