Exeter University steal the title!

University Challenged steal the title back!

Another hugely successful WESC charity pub quiz took place last week at Matthew’s Hall in Topsham where over 100 participants battled it out for first place!

Congratulations goes to team, University Challenged, from the University of Exeter who managed to repeat their success from the previous year and steal the title back! The team from Liverpool Victoria closely followed behind by only 0.5 points.

New to the quiz this time, which proved very popular, was a music round compiled by WESC learners. This round had everyone guessing and singing along to some fantastic tunes, a welcome break from the tricky questions of the other rounds.

We raised around £2k for additional music lessons, therapy and activities for WESC’s visually impaired students. Music is of special importance to WESC’s young people, some of which also have complex needs, and learning to play an instrument or sing can give them so much fun. For others, whom may have severe learning difficulties, music therapy offers them an opportunity to explore their emotions. Music not only gives them great joy, it encourages them to learn, boosts their confidence and helps them share their thoughts and feelings with others, opening up a world of independence, fulfillment and hope for the future. Thank you so much for supporting this important cause.

Everyone deep in concentration!

A big thank you goes to our sponsor Thomas Westcott for once again helping us hold this amazing event and for bringing in two teams of their own. “It was such a nice evening, great to see so many local businesses supporting WESC but next time we’d like to see the answers first!” Alan Sanders, Thomas Westcott

All in all it was a fantastic night full of fun, complemented by a delicious buffet and a great selection of drinks. At this point, we’d like to thank Exeter Brewery for kindly donating the beer again, a favourite at the bar as always.

A massive thank you also goes to everyone who donated prizes for our raffle and to the Adult Day Services staff who baked a lovely cake.

However, what would such an event be without people behind the scenes working hard to ensure everything is running smoothly? All our volunteers, be it learners and staff from WESC or the University of Exeter student Labour Party Society who did a brilliant job, you were amazing and we could not have done it without you!

Thank you also to our wonderful and experienced quizmaster Jill Dudding, who led us through the show.

Delicious cakes were a hit with the crowds!

Last but not least, thank you to everyone who came along and helped us raise so much money, we are all beyond grateful.
