In order to achieve this, WESC Foundation aims to:

- promote good relations between different groups within the organisation and within the wider community, wherever possible
- meet the diverse needs of the learners and staff and volunteers

- ensure that an inclusive ethos is established and maintained
- acknowledge the existence of racism and be proactive in tackling and eliminating discrimination
- ensure that issues related to discrimination are recognised across all areas of activity
- ensure that equality is an integral part of all planning and decision making
- ensure effective training in this area is available to all staff and students.
WESC Foundation’s Equality and Diversity policy objectives:
- to promote equality in all areas of our work, including policy making, service delivery, regulation and enforcements, and employment practice
- WESC will not tolerate any form of behaviour or activity, which discriminates on the grounds of, disability, gender, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion and belief, age or sexual orientation
- we are committed to working towards the vision of a world where people who are blind and partially sighted enjoy the same rights, responsibilities, opportunities and quality of life as people who are sighted
- WESC recognises that people are not all the same, that people are different and have different needs and experiences. WESC respects and welcomes the diversity of experience and background of all our service users and of the people who work for and with us. We will work to understand and meet the needs of all our learners, staff and visitors. We will endeavour to embrace the differences and develop the potential of all the people who work for and with us
- The learners who attend WESC are blind or partially sighted and many have additional disabilities and come from a range of cultural and minority backgrounds. Our prime objective is to enable all learners to reach their personal potential in a happy, challenging and caring environment that acknowledges their individual strengths and challenges
- WESC will seek to create an environment where everyone is respected and valued
- WESC will seek to further these values by providing a holistic specialist learning environment, promoting individual opportunities and the potential to make decisions and informed choices leading to increased independence and responsibility for their own learning and future.
WESC Foundation also seeks to work in partnership and fully engage with our community applying the same Equality and diversity objectives in relation to all our stakeholders. Examples of our work in the community include:
- Outreach services including our VI advisory service to Schools and to FE Colleges and Universities across the region
- Tollards Professional Development and Training Centre offering CPD services and resources to other education providers and the community
- Social Enterprise retail outlets in Exeter, Honiton and Exmouth
- Research and development with key universities and international partners
- Annual International Conference
- Fundraising department offering a range of activities and events for community participation to raise additional funding.
